Denominations, More Like Demon-in-Nations: God's Way or No Way!

Let’s call it what it is—Demon-in-Nations. That’s right. These divisions we call "denominations" might seem harmless or even helpful, but they often lead us away from the truth of God’s Word. You might think, "But I go to a Baptist church, a Catholic church, a Methodist church, or a Pentecostal church—isn’t that enough?" My friend, it’s not about the sign on the door; it’s about the truth in your heart.

Here’s the hard truth: denominations divide. Christ unites. And where there is division, there’s often the devil stirring the pot.

The Road is Narrow

I absolutely hate it when someone says to me "Oh you're a Christian? Me too! I'm Pentecostal! What denomination are you?" Right then and there you clearly do not understand what Christian means. Putting an adjective in front of the complete Christian noun is frankly blasphemy. It changes the very definition of Christ. Jesus didn’t say, “Pick the denomination that suits you.” He said,

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13-14).

Let’s not sugarcoat it—denominations are man-made creations, not God-ordained institutions. They are built on traditions, politics, and interpretations that often stray from the pure, unchanging Word of God.

God’s Way or No Way

There’s no Baptist way, Catholic way, or Pentecostal way—there’s only God’s way. Jesus didn’t come to establish a political or denominational system. He came to establish the Kingdom of God. When He prayed,

“Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10)

He wasn’t asking for 37 flavors of Christianity. He was asking for unity under the absolute truth of His Word.

Denominations often become political instead of spiritual. They cater to the culture, bending to the opinions of men instead of standing firm on the commands of God. When we follow these man-made versions of Christianity, we risk rebelling against God Himself.

Jesus warned us about this in Matthew 15:9:

“They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.”

The Danger of Demon-in-Nations

Denominations often pervert the gospel in subtle ways. Some might add rules that aren’t in the Bible, while others strip away truths they find “uncomfortable” or “old-fashioned.”

Here are some dangers:

False Security

Some denominations preach that you’re saved simply because you belong to their church. Newsflash: no church can save you. Only Jesus can. Acts 4:12 says,

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Cherry-Picking Scripture:

Many denominations focus on certain parts of the Bible while ignoring others. But God’s Word isn’t a buffet where you can pick and choose what you like. It’s the full-course meal, meant to be taken in its entirety. Revelation 22:19 warns us,

“If anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life.”

Division Instead of Unity:

Jesus prayed for His followers to be one. In John 17:21, He said,

“I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you.”

Yet denominations keep us divided, arguing over rituals, traditions, and secondary doctrines instead of focusing on the gospel.

Following Man Over God:

When we prioritize a denomination’s teachings over God’s Word, we’re no longer following Christ—we’re following man. Galatians 1:10 puts it plainly:

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

Christ Unites

The gospel of Jesus Christ is simple: He died for your sins, rose from the dead, and offers eternal life to those who follow Him. That’s it. He didn’t say, “Follow Me, but make sure you do it the Presbyterian way.” He didn’t say, “Believe in Me, but only if you worship like the Methodists.”

Christ unites us under one truth, one Spirit, one faith, and one baptism (Ephesians 4:4-6). Anything that divides us is not from God. The enemy loves denominations because they keep us arguing and distracted from our mission.

A Warning from Revelation 3

In Revelation 3:5, Jesus says,

“The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels.”

But what happens to those who aren’t victorious? Their names will be erased from the book of life. This is a sobering reminder that doing God’s will means following His Word completely—not bending it to fit our preferences or cultural trends.

Progressive Christianity claims to offer a modern take on faith, but in reality, it often leads people away from the narrow path. It’s not “progressing” toward heaven—it’s progressing toward hell. When we compromise God’s Word to suit the world, we are no longer walking in obedience. Jesus didn’t call us to be lukewarm or half-hearted. He said,

“So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth” (Revelation 3:16).

A Call to Surrender

So, what’s the solution? It’s simple: surrender. Surrender your denomination, your traditions, and your preferences. Go back to the Bible—the whole Bible. Let it be your guide, not a denominational handbook.

Stop saying, “I’m a Baptist” or “I’m a Catholic” or “I’m a Pentecostal.” Start saying, “I’m a follower of Jesus Christ.”

If God isn’t the foundation of your faith, then you’re building on sinking sand (Matthew 7:24-27).

Closing Challenge

Let’s not forget that the road to heaven is narrow. We can’t afford to gamble our salvation by following a version of Christianity that’s more about man than God. If God isn’t first in your life, He might as well be last.

It’s God’s way or no way. Let’s tear down the walls of Demon-in-Nations and stand united under the truth of God’s Word.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, forgive us for the ways we’ve allowed denominations to divide us and distract us from Your truth. Help us to seek You above all else, to stand firm on Your Word, and to follow You wholeheartedly. Unite us as one body in Christ, and lead us on the narrow path that leads to eternal life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
