Does Being Gay Exist? The Truth About God's Design and the Power of Healing

Good morning, Church family! Today, I want to talk about a topic that has become very controversial in our culture, yet it’s a topic we, as Christians, must address with clarity, compassion, and truth. The question is: Does being gay exist? Short answer is no. This question has been asked in many ways, but at the heart of it, it comes down to this: Is homosexuality part of God's original design?

Let me begin by saying something fundamental that we must always remember: God is the Creator of all things, and His design is perfect. Every person is made in His image (Genesis 1:26-27), and this means that we are designed by God for a specific purpose. God does not make mistakes, and He is not the author of confusion.

But in our broken world, trauma, pain, and the forces of darkness can distort God's perfect design, leading us to patterns of behavior and identity that are far from His will. And today, we will dive into how the enemy has used trauma and deception to take hold of many, causing people to struggle with homosexuality — a condition that is not part of God's original design.

God’s Original Design: Made in His Image

Let's first go back to the beginning, to God's original design for humanity. In Genesis 1:26-27, the Bible says:

Genesis 1:26-27 (KJV)"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."

God created humanity in His image—in His perfect likeness. The Bible goes on to say that He created two distinct genders, male and female, and that the two were meant to come together in marriage for the purpose of unity, procreation, and reflection of God's glory. There is no mention in Scripture of any other identity or expression outside of this divine design.

God does not make mistakes. The body you have, the gender He assigned you, and your true identity were crafted perfectly by Him. When we stray from God's design — whether due to personal choices, outside influences, or the effects of sin — we find ourselves in confusion and brokenness.

The Enemy’s Strategy: Using Trauma to Distort God's Design

The enemy’s ultimate goal is to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). He seeks to sow confusion and disorder into the lives of God’s children. Homosexuality is often the result of spiritual oppression and trauma, whether that be from childhood abuse, rejection, abandonment, or deep emotional pain. This trauma opens the door to spiritual strongholds, and the demons take advantage of that vulnerability to distort one’s perception of their true identity.

Let’s be clear: Homosexuality is a condition that the enemy uses to entrap individuals. It can manifest as a desire for same-sex relationships, and it may be linked to deep wounds that have been inflicted by the world. These wounds cause people to seek comfort in places that only further separate them from God’s healing and His design.

Ephesians 6:12 (KJV) reminds us: "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

The enemy uses the brokenness of this world to distort God's perfect design, leading people to believe that they are something they are not, and ultimately causing them to embrace false identities that pull them further from God's plan.

Homosexuality as a Trauma Response

Homosexuality is not a natural state of being; rather, it is often a response to trauma. It is a result of deep wounds that can affect the heart, mind, and spirit. Whether that trauma is emotional, physical, or relational, it affects a person’s ability to see themselves as God sees them — beloved, whole, and complete in Christ.

But here’s the good news: God can heal. Jesus Christ has the power to break the chains of bondage and bring true healing. That healing may not always look like what we expect — it may be a process — but the truth is that God's desire is for us to be made whole and restored to our original purpose. And part of that restoration is coming to terms with our true identity, which is rooted in Him alone.

Let’s take a look at 2 Corinthians 5:17, which reminds us of the transformation that happens in Christ:

2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

This is the truth of the gospel: we are made new in Christ. No matter what trauma or identity confusion you’ve experienced, Christ is able to restore you to who you were always meant to be. You are not your trauma, and you are not defined by any lie the enemy has spoken over you.

The Truth: You Are Made in the Perfect Image of God

The enemy’s greatest lie is that God’s design for you is wrong — that you are not meant to be who you are. But the Bible is clear: God made you in His image, and He made no mistakes when He created you.

Psalm 139:13-14 (KJV) says:" For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well."

You are fearfully and wonderfully made — your identity is not in the world’s standards, and it’s certainly not found in the labels the enemy tries to put on you. Your identity is in Christ, and when you embrace that, you begin to walk in the fullness of your purpose.

The Power of God's Name and the Enemy’s Deception

Church, I want to address something critical: the power of God's name. You see, God’s name is I AM. In Exodus 3:14, God declares to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”. This name represents God’s sovereignty, His authority, and His eternal nature. It is the name by which He is revealed to us, and it carries profound power because God is the only true "I AM."

But here’s the deception the enemy has used to lead many astray. When we align ourselves with false identities, especially ones not designed by God, we are inadvertently speaking curses over our own lives. When you say “I am gay,” you are using the sacred "I AM" and applying it to an identity that was never God’s design for you. By declaring this over yourself, you are essentially speaking a curse. You're placing an identity upon yourself that the enemy has influenced you to believe is part of who you are.

The enemy’s tactic is subtle: he uses the power of God’s name against you, twisting it to claim something over your life that God did not ordain. But remember: you are not defined by any lie or demonic influence. You were created in the image of God, and your identity is found in Him, not in the lies that the enemy tries to bind you with.

You are not gay by design. The truth is, you are made in the image of God — and anything that deviates from that perfect design is a distortion brought about by demonic influence. It is a lie. And when you speak God's name over something that is a lie — you invite a curse upon yourself. But, praise God, the curse can be broken through the power of Jesus Christ, who speaks life and truth over you.

So instead of declaring an identity that isn’t yours, declare the truth: "I am a child of God, created in His image, made whole and new through Christ Jesus." The moment you start to speak the truth over yourself, the lies of the enemy begin to break down. And the power of the name of I AM will bring healing and restoration to your identity.

The Call to Repentance and Restoration

God is calling all of us to return to His design. If you’ve been wrestling with homosexual desires or have lived a homosexual lifestyle, I want you to know that God loves you, and He is waiting for you to come to Him. It’s not about condemnation — it’s about restoration.

Homosexuality, like any sin, can be overcome through the power of Jesus Christ. And God wants to set you free from the trauma and deception that have held you captive. The journey may require courage and faith, but know that God will walk with you every step of the way.

Romans 12:2 (KJV) says: "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

This is the process of healing and transformation — the renewing of your mind to see yourself as God sees you, and to walk in His perfect will for your life.

The Power of Christ to Heal and Restore

In conclusion, being gay does not exist as part of God's original design. Homosexuality, like many other struggles, is a result of the brokenness in the world — a response to trauma and deception that opens the door to spiritual oppression.

But the great truth is that Jesus Christ has the power to heal you, to restore your identity, and to bring you into the fullness of the person God created you to be. You are not defined by your wounds or by the lies of the enemy. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, and your identity is found in Christ alone.

Let’s pray,

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your perfect design. We know that we are made in Your image, and You do not make mistakes. We come before You today, asking for Your healing touch on every heart that is struggling with the lies of the enemy. Lord, we renounce all trauma, all lies, and all strongholds that have led us away from Your truth. We ask for Your restoration and the renewing of our minds. Help us to walk in the fullness of our identity in Christ, and to live in the freedom that comes with knowing we are Your beloved children. In Jesus' name, Amen.
