God is Truth, and Truth Has No Exceptions

Good morning, Church!
Today, we are diving into a fundamental and transformative principle: God is Truth. Not truth with exceptions. Not truth with personal preferences. Truth, plain and simple.
This message may challenge us, but that’s the purpose of truth—it holds up a mirror, exposing not just our flaws but also God’s perfect standard. Let’s unpack why this matters and how it shapes our understanding of obedience, God’s laws, and our walk with Christ.
God Is Truth, and Truth Is Absolute
When Moses asked God His name, God replied, “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14). In that profound statement, God revealed His nature: eternal, self-existent, unchanging, and completely sovereign. Just as God does not change, neither does His truth.
Truth isn’t subjective. It isn’t open to interpretation or personal adaptation like man-made Christian Denominations. It’s not a sliding scale where we can pick and choose what suits us. Truth is absolute, and it originates from God Himself.
Jesus reinforced this when He said,
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
Notice He didn’t say, “I am a truth” or “I am your version of the truth.” He declared Himself the truth.
No Grey Areas: Truth is Black or White
The world loves grey areas—those murky places where people justify sin, compromise on convictions, and twist God’s Word to suit their desires. But Church, let me tell you plainly: to dwell in the grey is to live in rebellion against truth.
Imagine standing on a train track. The train is coming, but instead of stepping off the track, you shuffle to the middle of the rail, thinking it’s “safe enough.” That’s the danger of the grey area—it’s already a place of disobedience.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:37, “Let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes, and your ‘No,’ ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.”
Truth doesn’t need embellishment, and it doesn’t leave room for compromise.
God’s Sovereign Laws: The Foundation of Truth
God’s laws are not suggestions. They are the sovereign expressions of His truth, designed for our good and His glory. Psalm 119:160 declares,
“The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous rules endures forever.”
But what happens when we add our own twists, interpretations, or denominational preferences to God’s Word? We step out of obedience and into rebellion.
Let’s get real. Denominations and traditions often layer human opinion over God’s commands, creating confusion and division. These are grey areas that undermine the unity and clarity of God’s truth. Jesus warned about this in Mark 7:13, saying,
“You nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”
God doesn’t need us to reinterpret His Word. He needs us to obey it.
Why Everyone Knows God Exists
Romans 1:20 tells us plainly: “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”
Every person, whether they admit it or not, has an innate awareness of God’s existence. Creation itself declares His glory (Psalm 19:1). Truth, like God, doesn’t need to be proven; it simply is.
Imagine standing before a mountain range at sunrise or looking at the intricate design of a single flower. These are not random occurrences; they are declarations of a Creator. Denying this truth is not a lack of evidence but a willful suppression of what is plainly visible.
The Problem with Adding or Twisting Truth
In Revelation 22:18-19, we are given a stark warning:
“I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City.”
This warning applies not just to the book of Revelation but to the entire counsel of God’s Word. Yet how often do we see people twist Scripture to fit their own agendas? How often do we justify sin by reinterpreting God’s commands to suit our feelings or culture?
Here’s the truth: God doesn’t adjust His Word to align with us. We must adjust our lives to align with His Word.
The Call to Obedience
Obedience to God’s truth isn’t just about rules; it’s about relationship. Jesus said in John 14:15,
“If you love me, keep my commands.”
Obedience is God’s love language.
But obedience requires humility. It means submitting to God’s authority even when it challenges our comfort or contradicts the world’s values.
1 John 5:3 reminds us, “This is love for God: to keep His commands. And His commands are not burdensome.”
God’s laws are not meant to oppress us but to free us—to lead us into the fullness of life that only He can give.
The Danger of Falling Short
Ignoring or diluting God’s truth has eternal consequences. Hebrews 10:26-27 warns us:
“If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.”
Church, this isn’t a message to scare you but to awaken you. God’s truth is not a buffet where you pick what you like and leave the rest. It’s an all-or-nothing commitment.
Living in the Light of Truth
So, how do we live as people of truth in a world that loves grey areas?
Know the Word: Dive deep into Scripture. Let it be your foundation and guide.
Submit to God: Surrender your will to His, even when it’s hard.
Reject Compromise: Don’t water down truth to fit in or avoid conflict.
Walk in Love and Grace: Truth without love is harsh, but love without truth is empty.
Conclusion: Embracing the I AM
God’s truth is not up for debate. It’s not subject to trends, opinions, or personal preferences. It stands eternal, just as God Himself does.
When Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life,” He wasn’t offering an option. He was declaring the only path to salvation, the only foundation for life, and the only reality worth living for.
Church, let’s commit to living in the light of God’s truth—fully, unapologetically, and joyfully. Because in the end, truth isn’t just a concept; it’s a Person. And that Person is calling us to follow Him.
Let’s Pray,
“Lord, You are truth, and Your Word is unchanging. Forgive us for the times we’ve tried to bend Your truth to fit our desires. Help us to walk in obedience, rejecting compromise, and standing firm in the light of Your Word. Strengthen us to live boldly in a world that loves the grey, and may our lives reflect Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Go in truth, Church, and let your life be a testimony to the greatness of the great I AM.
