Living by the Word: The Unchanging Truth of Scripture and The Broad Road of Destruction
Brothers and sisters, we gather today to reflect on a truth that must echo in the deepest chambers of our hearts: To be biblical is to live by the eternal, unshakable Word of God.
The Bible is not a book of suggestions or shifting opinions. It is the living, breathing Word of God, sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Its truth does not bend to culture, nor does it yield to personal preference. It stands immovable, as God Himself is unchanging (Malachi 3:6).
Today, I stand before you to declare that the greatest threat to Christianity is not the world outside, but the compromise found within the church.
The Authority of Scripture
In 2 Timothy 3:16, Paul tells us that
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness."
This leaves no room for interpretation that contradicts the heart of God. To live biblically means to submit fully to the authority of the Word. It is not for us to mold Scripture to fit our desires; it is for Scripture to mold us into the image of Christ. Jesus Himself declared,
"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away" (Matthew 24:35).
If the eternal King stands by every word He has spoken, who are we to question or alter it?
False Teachers and the Deception of Our Age
One of the greatest dangers we face today is the rise of false Pastors and teachers who twist Scripture to appease itching ears (2 Timothy 4:3-4). They preach a gospel of comfort, prosperity, and tolerance at the expense of truth and repentance. These are not shepherds of Christ's flock but wolves in sheep's clothing (Matthew 7:15). They speak of love without holiness, grace without transformation, and faith without obedience.
Let me be clear: the greatest enemy of the true gospel is not atheism or secularism, but counterfeit Christianity. Jesus warned us,
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father" (Matthew 7:21).
A church that does not uphold the entirety of God's Word leads its people down the broad road of destruction.
The Division of Denominations
Another grievous wound to the body of Christ is the division brought by denominationalism. Where the apostles called for unity, we have built walls. Christ prayed that we would be one as He and the Father are one (John 17:21).
Yet today, believers are scattered, divided by interpretations, traditions, and personal agendas. Denominations are not from God. They are the product of man's political agenda, which makes them of the world—of Satan, not of Christ.
The enemy delights in division because it weakens the church and blinds us to the truth. While differences in practice may exist, the core of our faith must be anchored in the undivided truth of the gospel.
A divided church is a weak church. The enemy thrives in division. But I call on each of you to remember that we are not called to pledge allegiance to denominations, but to Christ alone. Let every knee bow to Him, not to the creeds of men. Let every voice declare, "Jesus is Lord!" Let our unity be found in the Word of God, not the writings of men.
Living Biblically in an Age of Compromise
To live biblically is to honor every word of the new covenant given to us by the blood of Christ. We do not pick and choose which commands to follow. We do not water down sin for the sake of acceptance.
We stand firm, even if we stand alone. The Bible calls us to be holy as He is holy (1 Peter 1:16). This means living lives marked by righteousness, humility, and unwavering faithfulness to the Word.
A Call to Return to the Word
Church, this is a call to repentance. Let us return to the Word, to the narrow path that leads to life. Let us reject the voices that seek to distort the truth and cling to the unchanging promises of God. Jesus said,
"If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:31-32).
Freedom is found in the unfiltered, unaltered Word of God. Revival begins when we return to it.
Conclusion
Brothers and sisters, the time is now. Let us rise as a people who honor every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Let us be a light that shines in the darkness, unwavering in our devotion to the truth. For the grass withers and the flowers fade, but the Word of our God endures forever (Isaiah 40:8). May we live and breathe by His Word alone, for His glory and the advancement of His kingdom. Amen.
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts bowed in humility and reverence. We thank You for the gift of Your Word, which is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. Lord, forgive us for the times we have strayed from Your truth and allowed the voices of the world to lead us. Bring us back to the unchanging foundation of Scripture. Strengthen us to stand firm, even in the face of opposition. Unite Your church under the banner of Christ alone, and let our lives reflect the holiness and righteousness You have called us to. May we walk by faith, uphold the truth, and bring glory to Your name in all we do. In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.
