Is All Religion Satanic? Yes, Let Me Explain Why.

Good morning, everyone! Now, I know what you're thinking: “Did the preacher just say all religion is satanic?” Yep, I did. And before you grab your pitchforks (or start furiously typing in the comments section), let me explain why.

Here’s the thing: We’ve all heard that “religion” is the answer to all of humanity’s spiritual longings, right? People go on and on about how “you have to find the right religion to get to God,” but the truth is—religion is not the answer. And the reason it’s so dangerous is that it is man-made, not God-made. It's like thinking your GPS will lead you to the destination, but you’ve got it set to "random" and you’re driving around in circles. Religion is like that, folks. It’ll keep you lost in a cycle of rules and rituals, but it won’t take you where you need to go.

Religion is Man-Made, Not God-Made

First of all, let's clear something up: Religion—and I’m talking about any religious system—was created by humans. It’s a construct. It’s like politics or those weird “fad diets” that keep popping up every year. “Keto, paleo, vegan—pick your poison!” Religion is often the same thing: pick your system, pick your set of rules, pick your way to try to get to God. But here’s the catch: God didn’t create religion. People did. And when people create something, it’s always messy and full of man-made ideas that just don’t quite work.

God is not a religion. He’s a being. The Being. And the moment we try to box Him up into a set of rules and regulations that we invented—well, that’s when things go sideways.

Religion Divides, God Unites

Now, you might be thinking, “Okay, but isn’t religion supposed to bring people together?” Here’s the truth: It doesn’t. Religion divides.

Look at any religious group throughout history, and you’ll see division, fighting, and arguments over who’s right. Christianity has its denominations—Catholics, Baptists, Lutherans, Presbyterians, Methodists. All great people, but all with their own twist on the same thing. Then, you’ve got Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and let’s not even get started on the “denominations” of secularism and political ideologies.

The point is: Religion divides us. It creates categories, and we love to argue over whose category is better. You know, like that kid who refuses to play with you because you don’t have the same brand of sneakers. But here's what’s different about God—He doesn’t care what label you slap on yourself. God cares about your heart. God’s kingdom is about unity, not division. Jesus came to bring us together. His love is the glue that binds us.

When religion gets in the way, though, it separates us. It’s like saying, “I’m better than you because I’m following the right set of rules,” which totally goes against the message of love, grace, and inclusion that Christ taught.

Satan is the Ruler of the World

Now, hold onto your seats because I’m going to say something that might ruffle a few feathers: If it’s not from God, it’s from Satan.

What? Yes. I said it. But hear me out. The Bible says that Satan is the ruler of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4). He’s the one behind all the deception, the lies, the manipulation. He’s the one who loves to twist the truth and make us think that a “religious system” is the answer, when in reality, it just keeps us distracted from the truth. The more we focus on “rules,” “rituals,” and “regulations,” the further we get from the relationship that God desires with us.

And guess what? Religion is a worldly thing—meaning, it’s part of the system that Satan has set up to keep us distracted from the real thing: a relationship with God. Satan loves religion because it makes us focus on ourselves and our own efforts to earn favor with God.

Religion is about what you do. The gospel is about what God did. You see the difference?

Satan wants us to be busy and distracted. God just wants us to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10).

Religion Doesn’t Lead to God—A Covenant Does

Now, here’s the kicker: We cannot follow a man-made construct. We follow a covenant. A covenant is a promise, a bond, an agreement between two parties. In this case, it’s between God and humanity. And the terms of the agreement were sealed by Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection.

Religion, on the other hand, is a set of rules that tells you, “You need to do this, this, and this, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll get to heaven.” But that’s not how it works, folks. God didn’t send Jesus to die so you could follow some religious checklist. He sent Jesus to restore the broken relationship between God and man, so we could live in the freedom of His grace, not under the burden of man-made rules.

The Bible says in Hebrews 8:6 that Jesus is the mediator of a better covenant, one based on better promises. The Old Covenant was based on law, on doing things perfectly. The New Covenant is based on grace, on God’s perfect love. Religion is about what you do. God’s covenant is about what He did for you.

Why Religion is Not the Answer, and What Is

So, here’s the takeaway: Religion is a distraction. It’s not the point. The point is a relationship with the Creator of the universe. Religion gives you a rulebook. Jesus gave you a heart and a promise: “I will never leave you, and I will never forsake you.”

Jesus didn’t come to start a new religion; He came to call us to Himself. He didn’t come to say, “Follow these 10 steps to get to heaven,” He came to say, “Follow Me, and I’ll bring heaven to you.” Jesus didn’t come to give us more rules, He came to give us freedom.

So, the next time someone tells you that religion is the answer, kindly remind them that religion is a dead end. What we need is not more rituals, more rules, or more divisions. What we need is Jesus. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). No one comes to the Father except through Him. Not through a religion. Not through a ritual. But through a relationship.

Conclusion: Follow the Covenant, Not a Religion

So religion, in general, is a distraction from what God really wants—a relationship with you. And the reason religion is so dangerous is that it makes us think that we need to follow a bunch of rules to get to God, instead of just receiving the love and grace He’s already offering.

So, let’s stop trying to “fit in” with man-made systems. Let’s throw away the checklist and embrace the covenant of grace that God offers through Jesus Christ. That’s where the real power is. And that’s where true freedom is found.

Let’s pray

“Lord, thank You for the grace and love that You’ve shown us through Jesus. Forgive us for getting caught up in man-made systems and forgetting that all we need is You. Help us to embrace the relationship You offer, not the rules that try to bind us. We don’t need religion; we need You, God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Now, go and live in the freedom of Christ! Don't get bogged down by religion. Just follow HIM.
