The Movie That Every Single Christian on The Planet Needs to Watch - Nefarious.

Understanding the Enemy: The Importance of Watching Nefarious

Today, I want to talk about something very serious, something that is often overlooked but is absolutely essential for us as Christians to understand: the spiritual war we are in. This battle is not just a metaphor. It's not just some abstract concept. It is real. And the more we understand about our enemy, the better equipped we will be to fight the good fight.

Now, let’s dive into something I want to make sure every Christian here—every Christian on the planet—understands. There is a film that has recently made waves in the Christian community and for good reason. That film is Nefarious, based on Steve Deace's 2016 novel A Nefarious Plot. I want to talk about why this movie is so imperative for Christians to watch and understand. It’s not just a film—it's a wake-up call.

The Reality of Spiritual Warfare

Before we dive into the details of the movie, let’s talk about the reality of spiritual warfare. The Bible makes it clear that we are not just physical beings moving through a physical world. There is a spiritual realm, a battle happening right now for our souls. Ephesians 6:12 tells us,

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

In other words, the enemy is real, and his mission is not some minor inconvenience. It is to destroy you. The sooner we realize this, the more prepared we will be for the battle. We are in a war, and as soldiers of Christ, it is our duty to understand our enemy and his tactics.

Nefarious as a Battle Cry

Now, let’s turn our attention to Nefarious. The movie is based on Steve Deace’s A Nefarious Plot, and it’s more than just a horror-thriller. It is a masterful depiction of the methods, motives, and mission of demons. Nefarious is not your typical Christian film—it pulls no punches in showing the intensity and wickedness of Satan and his forces.

The movie focuses on the interaction between a convicted murderer named Nefarious and a psychiatrist who is trying to determine whether Nefarious is fit for execution. What seems like a routine psychological evaluation soon spirals into a battle of minds and souls, where the psychiatrist comes face to face with the chilling and unrelenting truth: the man he’s evaluating is possessed by a demon. And not just any demon—a demon on a mission to destroy him, manipulate him, and drag him to hell.

This movie outlines the exact nature of the enemy. It shows us their tactics, their methods, and most importantly, their goal—to twist our minds, to cause chaos in our hearts, and to turn us away from God. It’s an eye-opening glimpse into what demonic possession and influence can look like in a modern context. It’s real. It’s dangerous. And it’s happening every day.

Why Every Christian Needs to See This Movie

You might be wondering, why should every Christian see this movie? Well, here’s the thing: The enemy is cunning. He doesn’t show up with horns and a pitchfork, ready to announce his presence. He doesn’t always appear as some obvious force of evil. More often than not, he operates in the shadows, behind the scenes, quietly pulling the strings, trying to manipulate and deceive. He will disguise himself in a way that we think is harmless—sometimes even appealing—if we don’t have discernment.

And that’s where Nefarious comes in. The movie pulls back the curtain and exposes the true nature of the battle we’re facing. It’s imperative for every Christian because it teaches us to see through the lies and understand the methods of the enemy. It shows us that Satan’s strategy isn’t just about temptation or fear—it’s about destruction at the deepest, most fundamental level.

It reminds us that we must be aware of the spiritual battle happening around us at all times. Satan is working overtime, using every tool at his disposal to distract us, discourage us, and eventually destroy us. In order to stand strong in this battle, we have to understand exactly who we are fighting. And Nefarious gives us an unflinching look at what we’re up against.

We Are Soldiers in God's Army

As Christians, we are soldiers in God's army. But here's the thing: A soldier who doesn't understand the enemy is a soldier who's destined to lose. Imagine a general sending soldiers into battle without telling them anything about the enemy, their tactics, or their goals. It’s insanity. It’s unacceptable. Yet that’s how many of us treat spiritual warfare. We go about our lives, not realizing the forces at work around us, not realizing that Satan is actively trying to steal, kill, and destroy.

The Bible warns us over and over to be watchful, to be on guard, and to put on the armor of God—because we are in a war. This isn’t just a metaphor. It’s a reality. We are soldiers in God's army, and our mission is to stand firm, to resist the enemy, and to fight for the Kingdom of God. 2 Corinthians 10:4 says,

"For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds."

Our battle is not against people. It's not against things. Our battle is spiritual, and we must fight it with spiritual weapons—prayer, faith, the Word of God, and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Sun Tzu and the Art of War: Understanding the Enemy

Let’s pause for a moment and take a page from Sun Tzu, the ancient Chinese military strategist who wrote The Art of War. One of his key principles is this: "Know your enemy and know yourself, and in a hundred battles, you will never be in peril."

As Christians, we have to understand that knowing our enemy is just as important as knowing who we are in Christ. If we are ignorant of the enemy’s tactics, we’re setting ourselves up for defeat. That’s why it is absolutely imperative that we educate ourselves about how Satan operates.

Movies like Nefarious serve as a warning and a tool to arm us with knowledge. Just as a soldier studies the enemy before battle, we too must study the spiritual enemy so that we are not blindsided. We need to be vigilant, armed with discernment and wisdom, able to recognize the schemes of the devil.

The Danger of Ignoring the Enemy

To ignore the reality of spiritual warfare, to act as though the enemy is not actively working against us, is spiritual suicide. It’s like being in a battlefield and refusing to acknowledge the presence of enemy troops. It’s dangerous, naïve, irresponsible and frankly, unacceptable!

As soldiers for God’s Kingdom, we must understand that spiritual warfare is happening right now—in your life, in your family, in your workplace, in your church. Satan is not taking a break. He’s actively trying to lead people astray, destroy families, break marriages, tear down churches, and steal our joy and peace.

And if we fail to recognize the tactics, the motivations, and the true power of the enemy, we become sitting ducks—easy targets for the devil’s schemes. We cannot afford to be ignorant. The battle is too real, the stakes too high.

Equipping Ourselves for Battle

So how do we equip ourselves for battle? How do we respond to this war? First, we need to know the enemy. We need to understand his motives and methods. Nefarious is one way to start that process—by giving us a powerful, chilling glimpse into the forces at work around us.

Second, we need to dive into the Word of God. The Bible is our ultimate weapon. It is sharper than any double-edged sword. It has the power to pierce through the darkness and reveal the truth. Ephesians 6:17 says,

"Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

And finally, we need to pray like warriors. Prayer is our direct line to God, our way of asking for strength, wisdom, and protection. We fight on our knees.

Conclusion: A Call to Arms

Church, this isn’t a game. This is a battle for our lives, for our families, and for our world. Nefarious is not just a movie—it’s a wake-up call. It’s a reminder that we are in a war, and we cannot afford to ignore the enemy.

We must know our enemy, we must equip ourselves with the knowledge and wisdom to fight, and we must be bold in our stand against the forces of darkness. We are soldiers for Christ, and it is our sovereign duty to fight Satan and his forces with everything we have.

Watch Nefarious. Understand the tactics of the enemy. Equip yourself with the tools of spiritual warfare, and step into the battle with courage and conviction. The enemy may be powerful, but we serve a mighty God, and in Him, we are more than conquerors.

Let’s pray.

Father, thank You for equipping us for the battle we face every day. Thank You for Your Word, Your strength, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Help us to be vigilant and to understand the enemy’s tactics so that we can stand firm in our faith. We are soldiers in Your army, and we want to fight well. Equip us, strengthen us, and give us the wisdom to fight this battle for Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Church, let’s rise up as warriors for Christ, prepared and ready for the battle ahead.
