The Power of “I AM” and the Enemy’s Sneaky Trick

Good morning, family! Today, we're going to talk about something that’s so important, and it’s actually one of the most powerful tricks the enemy uses on us. Are you ready? It's all about the phrase “I AM”.

Now, I’m not talking about the "I AM" like when you're declaring yourself as the champion of the family board game (which, let’s be honest, that is a title you wear with pride). I’m talking about the “I AM” that God uses to define Himself—“I AM WHO I AM.” (Exodus 3:14). This phrase is powerful! It’s God’s name. It’s how He introduced Himself to Moses. It’s the essence of who He is—timeless, sovereign, and eternal. It’s not just a phrase; it’s the power behind creation itself!

But here’s the twist. The enemy knows how powerful this name is, and he loves to hijack it. He’ll get you to speak it over your life in ways that don’t align with who God created you to be. Let’s talk about how he does that.

The Power of “I AM”

Now, God’s name, “I AM,” is so powerful that it’s like the universal key to your identity. Everything that comes after "I AM" is shaping how you see yourself. When God says, “I AM,” He’s declaring His identity, His authority, His very being. It’s a statement that commands things into existence.

But here's the kicker: Satan knows this power. He knows that what you speak over your life can shape your reality. So he works overtime to get you to say things like:

  • “I am depressed.”

  • “I am gay.”

  • “I am stupid.”

  • “I am an alcoholic.”

And my personal favorite: “I am an atheist.”

What happens when we declare these things over ourselves? Well, it’s like giving the enemy the keys to your heart and saying, “Here, make yourself at home!”

The Enemy’s Sneaky Trick

Let me tell you, the enemy is sneaky. He knows that your words have power—and he’s banking on you not knowing it. When you speak things like “I am depressed” or “I am never going to be happy,” guess what? You're aligning yourself with a lie. You’re letting the enemy take what God meant for good (your identity) and twist it into something that keeps you stuck.

It’s like putting on a T-shirt that says, “I am broken” and wearing it around all day. Would you do that? No! But that's what happens when you align your identity with the lies of the enemy. You start saying things that weren’t meant to define you. You were never meant to be depressed, or to walk around thinking you're dumb or hopeless. Those are curses, not truths.

When you say “I am an alcoholic”, you’re literally speaking a curse over yourself. You’re aligning yourself with a spirit of oppression. When you say, “I am gay,” you’re saying, “This is who I am,” instead of declaring, “I am a child of God, and I am free from every lie and trap of the enemy.”

The Trick Behind “I Am” and “I’m Not”

I want you to understand something here: When you speak negative things over your life, you’re giving the enemy an invitation. Imagine a demon sitting on your couch, sipping iced tea, just waiting for you to say, “I am never going to make it”, so it can jump up and say, “Oh, I can help with that!” They’ve got nothing to do but make you feel like a mess. And you’re the one serving them the key to your soul by constantly declaring the enemy’s lies.

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of handing over my identity to someone who’s just trying to make my life miserable.

The enemy is trying to convince you that you are something you’re not, and here’s the wild part: You’re helping him! You’re using the most powerful words ever spoken—“I AM”—and applying them to lies. It’s like saying, “I’m not going to succeed,” and then watching failure show up at your door. It’s like the time I said, “I am definitely going to eat that whole pizza,” and, well... you know what happened next.

Stop Speaking Curses and Start Speaking Truth!

Okay, so here’s the game plan—STOP speaking lies over your life. The good news is that you have the power to flip the script. If you’ve been saying “I am depressed,” it’s time to say, “I am more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus!” (Romans 8:37). If you’ve been saying, “I am gay,” it’s time to say, “I am created in God’s image, and He made me for freedom!”

The truth is, you are not what the enemy says you are. You are who God says you are! You are His child, loved and chosen, and you don’t need to identify with any lie from hell.

Declare Truth: I AM

Instead of saying, “I am an atheist,” say, “I am a child of the most High God, and He is my Savior and my Redeemer!” Instead of saying, “I am never going to be happy,” say, “I am filled with joy, and I am walking in the abundant life that Jesus has for me!”

Let me tell you, when you start speaking truth, something shifts. The enemy can’t handle the truth. It’s like throwing a bucket of cold water on his plans. Every time you declare who you truly are in Christ, you’re reminding the enemy that he’s already defeated.

You Are What You Say You Are—So Say the Right Thing!

You’ve got to be the one who declares who you are in Christ. The Bible says that death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). You have the authority to speak life into your situation.

So, today, if you’ve been speaking lies like, “I am depressed” or “I am broken,” it’s time to break those chains. It’s time to say, “I am healed. I am loved. I am more than a conqueror. I am free in Christ!”

Conclusion: Speak Life, Not Lies

In conclusion, remember: the enemy will try to trick you with your own words. He’ll get you to speak curses over yourself by using the power of God’s name, "I AM." But you don’t have to fall for it. Instead, declare the truth: “I am a new creation in Christ Jesus.” You are not defined by your struggles or by what the enemy says. You are who God says you are, and His word is the final authority.

Let’s pray

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us the power of Your name and the authority to speak life. We ask for the strength to reject every lie the enemy tries to feed us. We choose to declare who we are in Christ, and we break the chains of the curses we’ve spoken over ourselves. Help us to speak Your truth over our lives, and to walk in the freedom You’ve given us. In Jesus' name, Amen.

I hope this message helps you identify the power of the words you speak and equips you to declare truth over your life every single day.
