The Story of Your Life – What Is Your Story?

Updated: Dec 27, 2024

Good morning, brothers and sisters, I want to ask you a question this morning: Do you have a story to tell? The answer is simple—yes, you do.

The truth is, the story of your life is the most important story you will ever tell. It is a story that no one else can write, because it is uniquely yours. But let me take it one step further…What kind of story are you telling with your life right now?

Because the story of who you are today is the result of what you did yesterday. And the story of who you will become tomorrow will be shaped by the choices you make today.

Your Life is a Story God is Writing

From the moment you were born, your life began to tell a story. Psalm 139:16 says:

“Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.”

Isn’t that amazing? Before you took your first breath, God already knew your story. He has a plan, a purpose, and a divine narrative for your life.

But here’s the thing—God doesn’t force His story on you. He gives you the pen. Each day, through your words, actions, and decisions, you write the next chapter.

What Story Are You Telling?

Now, let’s get real for a moment. If someone were to read the story of your life today, what would they see?

  • Would they see faith, courage, and love?

  • Would they see moments of grace, forgiveness, and perseverance?

  • Or would they see fear, regret, and missed opportunities?

The beautiful thing about life is this: Your story isn’t finished yet. Even if you feel like you’ve made mistakes, you can turn the page. God’s mercy is new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). Every day is a new chapter, and every chapter is a chance to write something different.

The Power of Yesterday’s Choices

Who you are today didn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of what you did yesterday.

Galatians 6:7-8 reminds us:

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

Your choices matter.

  • If you sow seeds of kindness, faithfulness, and humility, you’ll reap a life filled with God’s blessings.

  • But if you sow bitterness, pride, or selfishness, the harvest will reflect that.

Here’s the encouragement though—God can redeem any story.

Even if your past is filled with mistakes, when you surrender your life to Christ, He begins to rewrite your story. What was once broken can become whole. What once brought shame can become a testimony of God’s grace. Your past may explain you, but it doesn’t have to define you.

Let God Be the Author

Sometimes we try to take full control of our story, don’t we? We plan, we strive, and we try to make things happen in our own strength.

But the truth is, the best stories are written when we let God hold the pen. Proverbs 3:5-6 says:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

When you trust God with your life, He begins to guide your story in ways you never imagined. Doors open that you thought were closed. Relationships are restored. And your life begins to reflect the glory of the One who created you.

Your Story Can Impact Others

One of the most powerful parts of your story is that it isn’t just for you.

Your story can inspire someone else. Your testimony of how God has worked in your life could be the very thing someone else needs to hear. Revelation 12:11 says:

“They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”

Your story—no matter how ordinary or broken you think it is—has power.

  • Someone may need to hear how you overcame a difficult season.

  • Someone may need to know that God’s grace is bigger than their mistakes.

  • Someone may need to hear that healing, redemption, and new beginnings are possible.

So don’t hide your story. Share it. Let God use your life to encourage and uplift others.

Writing the Next Chapter

As we reflect today, I want to ask you:

  • What chapter are you writing right now?

  • Is it a chapter of growth, or is it a season of waiting?

  • Is it a time of healing, or are you stepping out in faith to do something new?

Whatever it is, know this: God isn’t finished with you. Philippians 1:6 promises:

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

If you feel stuck, ask God to guide you. If you feel lost, ask Him to redirect you. Your story is far from over.

Conclusion: Start Writing Today

Today I challenge you:

  • Take time this week to reflect on your story.

  • Ask yourself, “Is this the story I want to tell?”

  • If not, ask God to help you write the next chapter with Him at the center.

Remember, your life is the greatest testimony of God’s grace, and every page can point others to Him.

Let’s pray

Heavenly Father, Thank You for being the Author of our lives. We know that every chapter of our story has purpose, even the hard and broken parts. Lord, we surrender our lives to You today. Write Your will into our hearts, and guide us to be the people You created us to be. Help us to trust You, to embrace our testimony, and to share it with others. May our lives reflect Your glory and bring hope to those around us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Go out today knowing this—Your story matters. Every chapter has purpose. And God is still writing.
