Trans Rights are Demons' Rights: A Biblical Perspective on Gender and Identity

Good morning, church. Today, we are going to talk about a sensitive but critically important issue that has been at the forefront of societal conversations in recent years—transgender rights, gender identity, and how the Bible teaches us to understand gender. It’s an issue that many people are struggling to understand, both in the church and in society at large.

In a world where people are questioning the fundamental aspects of who they are, it’s essential that we, as believers, understand God’s design for humanity. The growing push for what some call "trans rights" has led many to redefine gender and identity in ways that are not in line with God’s Word.

This sermon will explore why, from a biblical perspective, the movement to embrace transgender ideology is not just a political or social issue, but a spiritual one, where we must recognize the forces behind these movements.

Our culture is not just fighting over human rights, but over God’s truth and the very identity He has given us. In this sermon, we will discuss how the idea of "trans rights" can often align with spiritual forces—forces that are not of God, but of the enemy, who is working to distort and destroy God's perfect design for creation.

The Biblical Design for Gender:

First and foremost, we need to understand what the Bible teaches about gender. From the very beginning, God established His creation with order and purpose. In Genesis 1:27, it is written:

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."

This foundational truth tells us that God created two distinct and complementary genders: male and female. This is not a matter of societal preference or choice. It is God’s perfect design.

In Matthew 19:4-6, Jesus reaffirms this truth when He says:

"Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?"

Jesus, in the New Testament, also confirms the creation order and design. God created us male and female for a purpose, to reflect His image, and to live in accordance with His divine will.

There is no biblical support for the idea of fluid or shifting genders. The Bible is clear: God created us with specific, inherent characteristics that are either male or female, and both reflect the fullness of God's image.

The Spiritual Battle Behind the Gender Confusion:

As Christians, we must recognize that the battle we are facing is not just one of social or cultural disagreement—it is spiritual warfare. We live in a world that is influenced by both God's truth and the forces of evil. In Ephesians 6:12, Paul writes:

"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places."

This battle is ultimately about the truth of who we are in Christ versus the lies of the enemy.

The push for transgender rights is not merely about individuals seeking to express their gender differently; it is a spiritual attack on God’s created order and His divine truth. Satan’s primary aim has always been to distort the truth of God’s creation.

From the beginning, he has sown lies—beginning with the serpent in the Garden of Eden, questioning God’s perfect plan and enticing Eve to believe she could be something she was not. Genesis 3:1 recounts the serpent’s question: "Did God actually say, 'You shall not eat of any tree in the garden'?" The enemy’s tactic has always been to challenge God’s Word and deceive humanity into thinking we can be something other than what God has designed us to be. When we entertain ideas that go against God’s truth, we open ourselves up to spiritual confusion and deception.

This is the root of what is happening in the transgender movement today—a spiritual lie that suggests people can choose or change their gender, rather than embrace the gender that God has assigned them at birth.

Transgender Ideology and the Destruction of God's Image:

When people engage in the pursuit of transgender identity, they are embracing a lie that distorts God’s image in us. God made us male and female in His image. To deny this and seek to change our gender is a rejection of God’s very image and design. It is, in a spiritual sense, a rebellion against God’s truth.

The enemy seeks to distort the truth about who we are, because when we walk in the truth of our identity in Christ, we reflect God’s image. But when we allow the lies of the world to shape us, we are in danger of walking away from the image God intended us to reflect. This does not mean that those struggling with gender dysphoria are beyond hope. It means that we, as Christians, are called to speak the truth in love, and point them to the healing that can only come through Christ.

In Romans 1:21-25, Paul describes how people have exchanged the truth of God for a lie:

"For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever!" (Romans 1:21-25)

This passage speaks to the deception that leads people to exchange the truth of God's design for a lie. When we embrace sin—whether it be in the form of idolatry, immorality, or confusion about our identity—we open ourselves up to spiritual darkness.

Our Responsibility as Christians:

As believers, we are called to stand firm in the truth, even when the world around us is lost in confusion. Our role is not to be cruel or judgmental, but to lovingly speak the truth of God’s Word. In Ephesians 4:15, we are called to: "Speak the truth in love. "We are to show compassion and offer the hope of the gospel, which is the only remedy for the brokenness people feel when they reject God’s design.

We must also pray for those who are deceived by this ideology, asking God to open their eyes to the truth. We are all sinners in need of a Savior, and God’s grace extends to those who are lost, just as it has to each of us.

The Ultimate Hope:

The ultimate hope for those struggling with transgender issues—or any identity issue—is the redemption found in Christ. When we come to Christ, we are made new. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, we read:

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."

Christ does not call us to stay in confusion or rebellion. He calls us to new life—where our true identity is found in Him, not in our feelings, our desires, or the culture around us.

Conclusion

The battle over gender identity is not just a cultural issue. It is a spiritual battle between the truth of God's creation and the lies of the enemy. When we embrace the truth of God’s design for male and female, we reflect His image. When we reject that truth, we open ourselves up to deception and spiritual destruction.

As Christians, we must stand firm in the truth of God’s Word. We are called to love those who are deceived by these lies, to speak the truth in love, and to point them toward the ultimate solution—the redemption and restoration that can only be found in Christ.

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, We thank You for the truth of Your Word and the perfect design You have established for humanity. We pray for those who are struggling with their identity and the lies of this world. May Your truth break through the confusion and bring them to a place of healing and restoration. Help us, as Your people, to speak the truth in love, standing firm in the identity You have given us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
