Why the Bible is True – Every Word, Every Verse

Updated: Dec 30, 2024

Good morning, church family! Today, I want to talk about the Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth: the Bible. Now, we all know the Bible is often considered the "good book," the ultimate spiritual guide, the "manual for life." But what I want to focus on today is why we can be absolutely confident that every single word in it is true—and I mean every word.

It's not just some dusty old book of stories and fairy tales. It’s the living, breathing Word of God, and I’m here to explain why that’s not just a claim—it’s an undeniable truth.

1. Written by God Through Man: The Divine Inspiration

Now, let’s get this clear right off the bat: The Bible is not just a book written by humans. Sure, it’s made up of 66 books written by about 40 different people over 1,500 years. But that doesn’t mean it’s just a bunch of human ideas jumbled together. The Bible is divinely inspired. In 2 Timothy 3:16, Paul writes:

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness."

What does that mean? It means God Himself breathed life into the words of the Bible. These weren’t just good ideas that some people thought of—these were God's ideas. He used men to write them down, but the source was always Him.

Think about it like this: If I told you that I was going to dictate a letter to you, and you were going to write it down word for word, then you would be writing my words, right? Even though you’re holding the pen, I’m the one who’s speaking. That’s how it works with the Bible. God spoke, and people wrote it down. Every word was directed by God. Simple as that.

2. The Bible's Proven Consistency

You know, people like to say, “Well, the Bible was written so long ago, how can we be sure it’s still the same?” It’s a fair question, but let me give you some food for thought. The Bible is like your grandma’s secret recipe book: It’s been passed down through generations, but unlike your grandma’s cooking (bless her heart), this recipe has been perfectly preserved and checked time and time again. No mistakes, no missing ingredients.

Let me give you some proof. The Dead Sea Scrolls. You’ve probably heard of them. In 1947, some kids were throwing rocks in a cave by the Dead Sea when they stumbled upon ancient scrolls—dated back to the second century Before Christ. Guess what? These scrolls contained almost the entire Old Testament, and when scholars compared them to the Bibles we have today, they found that the text was virtually identical. That's a 2,000-year gap with very little change. No funny business, no edits, no “oops, let’s rewrite that part.” Just God’s truth preserved exactly as it was intended.

And let’s talk about archaeology for a second. For years, skeptics tried to say the Bible was a bunch of made-up stories. “The walls of Jericho didn’t fall!” they said. “King David was just a legend!” But guess what? Archaeology has continually confirmed the accuracy of the Bible. Every major excavation and discovery from ancient Israel has only pointed to one thing: The Bible is historically accurate, and even Atheist scholars can confirm this.

3. The Fulfilled Prophecies: Proof of God's Plan

Let’s talk about prophecy for a minute. The Bible contains hundreds of prophecies, some of which were written hundreds of years before the events actually happened. How could anyone predict the future so accurately? You can’t even predict what the weather’s going to be like next week, right? But the Bible? It nails it every time.

Take Jesus, for example. There are over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament about the coming Messiah, and Jesus fulfilled every single one. Things like:

  • Born in Bethlehem? Yep, Micah 5:2 says that’s where the Savior would be born.

  • He would be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver? Zechariah 11:12 calls it.

  • He would be crucified? Psalm 22 describes His hands and feet being pierced, long before crucifixion was even invented.

Now, the odds of just one person fulfilling even 8 of these prophecies is about 1 in 10^17—that’s 1 in 100 quadrillion! But Jesus didn’t just fulfill 8—He fulfilled 300. You don’t get odds like that unless God’s hand is all over it.

4. The Bible's Impact on Lives: Proof in Action

If the Bible was just a bunch of stories with no truth, it wouldn’t have the power to change lives. But every day, people all over the world are reading the Bible and experiencing life-changing transformation. People addicted to drugs, broken marriages, lost in sin—God’s Word, when taken to heart, turns things around. If you’ve ever experienced the power of God’s Word in your own life, you know exactly what I’m talking about. In Hebrews 4:12, it says:

"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."

That’s right—the Bible doesn’t just sit on your shelf like a dusty book. It’s alive. It cuts to the heart and transforms you from the inside out. No other book in history has the ability to do that. Only the Word of God.

5. The Bible’s Ability to Stand the Test of Time

Here’s the thing about the Bible: It’s been under attack since day one, and yet, it still stands strong. People have tried to destroy it, ban it, ignore it, but no matter what, the Bible keeps on going. It’s been translated into more languages than any other book. It’s been read by more people than anything else in human history. Why? Because it’s God’s Word, and it can’t be silenced. In Isaiah 40:8, it says:

"The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever."

That’s right. The Bible isn’t going anywhere. It’s eternal. You can burn all the copies you want, but God’s Word will continue to thrive. It always has, and it always will.

6. Cross-References: The Bible's Intricate Design vs. the Qur'an

Now, here’s something else you may not have thought about, but it’s worth mentioning. One of the most profound ways we can know the Bible is divinely inspired is by looking at its cross-references—those moments when one part of the Bible refers to, or connects with, another part of the Bible. It's like a massive spiritual network, a web of divine truths linking everything together. And let me tell you, this isn’t by accident. It’s God’s design.

For example, the Old Testament is filled with prophecies, and then we see those same prophecies fulfilled in the New Testament. The themes, events, and messages of the Bible all weave together like a perfectly crafted symphony. The beauty of it is that you can take one verse, trace it through the entire Bible, and see how everything points to Christ. This level of interconnectedness is something you can’t fake—it’s a sign of divine orchestration.

Now, here’s where it gets really interesting: when you compare the Bible’s cross-referencing to the Qur’an, you see something pretty different. The Qur’an does have references to some previous prophets, like Moses and Jesus, but the cross-referencing—the way verses build on each other across different books to deepen the understanding—is practically non-existent. The Qur’an is more of a standalone book with limited connections to other parts of its text.

But the Bible? It’s designed to be explored. It's like a treasure hunt where every clue leads you deeper into the story of God’s salvation. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible tells a unified story that makes sense as a whole. It doesn't just stand alone. It talks to itself, over and over again. For example:

  • The law in the Old Testament points to Jesus’ grace in the New Testament.

  • The tabernacle in Exodus foreshadows the true temple of Christ’s body.

  • The sacrificial system of the Old Testament points directly to Jesus as the Lamb of God.

In fact, there are more than 63,000 cross-references in the Bible! Think about that. The Bible isn’t just one book; it’s a library of interconnected truths, each validating the others. So when you’re reading it, you’re seeing God’s fingerprints all over it. He wrote it, and He wrote it to be understood in full.

But in contrast, the Qur’an, while it may contain some moral teachings, does not have the same level of cross-referencing or internal consistency. It doesn’t build upon itself in the way the Bible does, making it harder to see the full picture of God’s plan for salvation.

Conclusion: The Bible is True—Every Word, Every Verse

So, let me wrap it up by saying this: The Bible is not just a book. It’s God’s truth, written by human hands but inspired by the divine breath of God. It’s historically accurate, prophetically proven, and life-changing. You don’t have to take my word for it—look at the evidence. Look at the way it’s impacted lives. Look at the way it’s been preserved through centuries. The Bible is true, every word, every verse.

And if you’re wondering if the Bible has a place in your life, I’m here to tell you: it does. It’s not just a book for Sunday mornings. It’s a book for today, for you, for now. Open it. Read it. Let God speak to you through it.

Let’s pray:

Father, we thank You for Your Word. We thank You that it is true, that it is alive, and that it speaks to us today. Help us to never take it for granted, but to treasure every word. Open our hearts to Your truth, and help us live by it every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Now go out there, read that Bible, and know that every word in it is God-breathed and true!
